Stand up paddle surfing

I was sailing around Inner Harbor, Baltimore when I saw a guy, standing on his surf board and paddling. I wasn't quite sure until I went home and discovered about this sport!
Stand up paddle (SUP) surfing, also known as Hoe he'e nalu in Hawaiian language is an emerging sport. It has an Hawaiian heritage linked to it and began as a way surfing instructors would manage their groups.
As this sport is gaining more popularity you can find local SUP lessons in your locality and also find stores which sell SUP equipment. So all you need is a Stand up paddle boat, a paddle and a wave to surf; probably not if you are a beginner ;) I'd go with the calm water first. I This is definitely going on my "wishlist".

OMG, that is so exciting... :-) Wow, it must be difficult also.... you really need to get your balancing act together to do this skillfully, otherwise TOPPLE TOPPLE! Please take your videos when you go and do it and post it here... :P I am sure you will be an expert!!

I agree, I'm sure it is difficult and will require some lessons before I really get to it. Something I'll like to do in a few years from now.

It's a sport i've been wanting to get in to as well. We were at the Eddie Vedder show here in Baltimore on June 15th and he was talking about how he had spent that afternoon SUPing around the Harbor. Most of the crowd let out a groan... They have pulled 6 bodies out of the harbor this year alone.

I you go here, DON'T FALL, and if you hit a speed bump, just keep going!

Good luck!

Yeah, this sport is sleek, fast, fun and don't forget fashionable.

Fashionable on a board. Well, it depends on what you're wearing, but Cool -- You Bet!
